Nicole's Story

One of the very first peer mentors we ever had in our Circle of Friends (CoF) group (when we were flying by the seat of our pants trying to figure out even how Circle of Friends groups would work!) was Nicole DeBoer Meyer. She came to us with a big heart, having had a brother with multiple disabilities. She used that experience to participate in our small CoF group, mentoring one of our students with autism. He loved her. Nicole helped us learn the power of peer mentors, and our current group is an outgrowth of what we learned from her and the other peer mentors at that time. She went on to get her degree in an area of rehabilitation therapy and has successfully formed an amazing group that supports individuals with disabilities.
