About Nebraska Health Care Foundation
The mission of Nebraska Health Care Foundation is to invest in programs and initiatives designed to attract, develop, and retain Nebraskans who serve those living in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Our fundraising efforts help create a healthy ecosystem of care and employment that provides our citizens with opportunities to live a virtuous life.

Programs & Services Offered

  • Each year, Nebraska Health Care Foundation (NHCF) offers 75 educational scholarships to those seeking to launch or advance a career in healthcare.

  • NHCF is partnering to develop healthcare-themed curriculum for use in grades 3-12 afterschool programs and summer camps in Nebraska.

  • NHCF provides equipment and resources (e.g., mannequins, intravenous therapy supplies, stethoscopes, manuals) used in training direct care workers. For example, NHCF is supporting the translation of a nurse aide training manual and workbook to Spanish.

  • NHCF’s emergency support fund was established to meet the needs of Nebraska’s long-term care community in the wake of a natural disaster, catastrophe, pandemic (e.g., personal protective equipment), or another unanticipated event.

  • Nebraska Health Care LEAD (Lead. Excel. Advance. Develop.) is a year-long program that brings together long-term care workers from across Nebraska who have a desire to grow as leaders in the profession.

  • NHCF co-sponsors a public television program called, “Now What?” The WOWT-TV series focuses on dementia-related topics, with programs available online for public education and professional in-service training.

  • NHCF facilitates an annual grant program awarding patient lift systems to four Nebraska nursing homes or assisted living communities.

  • More than 20,000 people require care or support in one of Nebraska’s nearly 500 skilled nursing facilities or assisted living communities.

  • In Nebraska, life expectancy has increased from 73 years in 1970 to the current average of 80 years.

  • By 2030, the number of Nebraskans age 75-79 will increase by 60 percent, as compared to the 1.2 percent projected increase in Nebraskans under the age 18.

You Can Help

  • $5 funds one hygiene kit for an elder living in a Nebraska skilled nursing facility or assisted living community following a natural disaster.

  • $25 gives a gas gift card to a nursing home direct care worker experiencing a personal crisis.

  • $40 provides one blood pressure cuff for use in training a nursing assistant.

  • $60 gives a student a textbook needed to become a nursing assistant.

  • $125 helps provide food for a nursing home worker and his family following a house fire.

  • $2,000 provides a mannequin for use in training Nebraskans to work in a long-term care facility.

Dollars at Work

  • Partnered to develop healthcare-themed curriculum that will be used in afterschool programs and summer camps by students in grades 3-12 across Nebraska.

  • Paid out $50,000 in education scholarships to Nebraskans seeking a career in health care.

  • Provided behavioral health training via simulcast to 47 Nebraska nursing home and assisted living professionals

  • Facilitated a grant program totaling $9,500 to provide patient lift systems to four Nebraska nursing homes and assisted living communities.

  • Supported a health sciences conference for high school students.

  • Facilitated a year-long leadership development program for 14 long-term care workers and their mentors.

  • Supported the production of a public television and in-service program focused on dementia and related issues.
