Dulce’s Story

My name is Dulce Rodriguez-Tinajero, and I am 19 years old. I am currently attending college to become a paralegal, have a certification in Immigration law, and work part-time. I have had Epilepsy for over two years now, but it has been a long journey. While I was in high school, I was afraid to attend school because my medication wasn't working, knowing I could have a seizure during school. I did not want anyone to know about my condition. After the first six months of being diagnosed, I was prescribed medicine. Unfortunately, like in most cases, that medication didn't help and made me suffer from many more seizures. After eight months of being diagnosed, I found a doctor who cared about my condition and prescribed me Keppra. I could finally have peace, knowing I would not get another seizure with this new medication I was prescribed. My family helped me so much during this time, and without them I would not be where I am today. This life-changing experience made me want to give back to my community, which is why I won Miss Nebraska Latina 2020. If you are going through a tough time like I was, you are not alone. With your help, we can put an end to Epilepsy!
